Community Paramedic Response Team

Community paramedics are specifically trained to provide healthcare in communities and patient homes. Physicians, continuing care site staff and care teams can request in-home care from community paramedica for their patients.


Community paramedics can provide the following in-home treatments and assessments:
- Wound care, including putting in stitches
- Blood collection
- Medication, including intravenous administration
- Electrocardiograms (ECGs)
- Starting and managing intravenous sites
- Monitoring of oxygen levels, blood pressure, blood sugar, heart rate, etc.

In addition to in-home treatments and assessments, they:
- Can answer your questions about your care
- Have secure access to health records
- Have the necessary equipment and medication for treatments

The Good Samaritan Society at South Ridge Village offers seniors multiple levels of support and the opportunity to age in peace.

Good Samaritan Society Adult Day Program

The Personal Pathways Day Program accommodates up to 20 adults Monday through Friday. Participants may attend from one to five days per week, depending on individual need. Enrolment into the program is by referral from Alberta Health Services Home Care. Services include daytime caregiver respite, personal care assistance, social/recreational activities, and health promotion. Participants are served a hot meal at lunchtime.


The person must be refered by Home Care; if not a Home Care client, the Day Program can facilitate a referral to Home Care.

Provides support for people with medical needs including activities of daily living so they can live in their own homes or communities.

Helps people of all ages that live at home and need support, including:

Home Care team members meet with clients to assess their needs and create a care plan.


Anyone living in Alberta with a valid provincial health care card (or registration in progress) can receive Home Care services as long as their health care needs can be safely met in the home. Consistent access criteria have been developed provincially for Supportive Living and Long Term Care and serve as general guidelines. Each client is individually assessed.

​The Newell Foundation provides a quality, affordable and safe home in a supportive environment to meet the needs of senior life. Newbrook Lodge is located in the Brooks close to most amenities. This facility is a three story building with 148 suites built around a central courtyard.


Home Care personnel are available to provide assistance with medications, bathing and other care needs as assessed. All residents have 24 hour access to immediate assistance via monitored medical alert bracelets throughout the facility. Various activities such exercises, entertainment, and socials are scheduled daily for those who wish to participate.

Next Step Residential

At Next Step, we provide a full line of services to assist people with disabilities. Residential programs, community access program, employment support, support and respite contracted homes, and paid companionship options are available to adults in Medicine Hat and Brooks.

Support for children includes Stepping Stones Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) through FSCD (Family Services for Children with Disabilities), and through CFSA (Children and Family Services Act) behavioural and developmental support, respite services, community support, and consultative services.

Oyen Seniors Lodge (Acadia Foundation)

​Our Lodge units are available in single (39 rooms) and double occupancy (3 rooms) size with double size having an overall larger living space. Full meal and housekeeping services (and Home Care Services if needed) are included.


The Prairie Estates units (12 two bedroom suites) are purchased and owned by the residents and are located on a separate wing of the Lodge. 

 

Our low income Prairie Home units (8 units) are located on a separate wing of the Lodge. They provide additional living space and privacy, with a common lounge area for socializing, laundry facilities and a separate entrance.

​Playfair Lodge is a congregate, living facility serving functionally independent senior citizens 65 years of age and over. The Wellington Retirement Residence has 50 designated Supportive Living Level 4 government funded suites, accessed through Alberta Health Services, South Zone. Care and accommodation is partially funded by Alberta Health Services and partially paid for by the resident. To qualify, seniors must complete an assessment and are then placed on a wait list for available space. Space is assigned, so although you may indicate a preference, the initial placement will be based on first- available-space. Given the long waiting list, turn-around is often quick; typically, within 48 hours
