Addiction & Mental Health - Adult Services

Addition counselors and mental health therapists provide treatment for addictions and/or mental illness in a welcoming, client centered atmosphere. Treatment may include individual, family and group as well as consultation and/or referral to your community supports and providers.

Individuals can self-refer, but referrals can also come from medical professionals and community based agencies ( a phone call or doctors note)

Addictions & Mental Health - Child, Youth & Family Services (Medicine Hat)

Offers free services to children, youth and families. Services are offered in individual, family and group settings. Located in the Provincial Building in Medicine Hat - Room 1, 346 3 St SE, Medicine Hat, AB


Services Offered:

-Addiction prevention and mental health promotion including information, education and community collaboration

-Protection against Children Abusing Drugs Act Program (PChAD)

-The PAS Program is a 6 week coordinated academic and therapeutic program for youth in grades 7 to 12. Referrals are completed through school administrators and may be initiated by the parent/guardian

-School-based services whish are completed in the child's school setting. Referrals are made through school staff and may be initiated by the parent/guardian

-Tobacco information, education and cessation including support groups

2018 Groups


Storm Transformers:

Mood Regulation Group for ages 7-9

A play-based program that teaches children essential resilience skills such as: how to recognize, understand, and regulate their emotions, increase positive coping skills, develop social & emotional skills, and strengthen relationships. This group allows children to process and practice new skills, which will support them in feeling balanced and happy.

Worry Warriors:

Calming strategies that teach identification of feelings, thoughts, body sensations and environmental stressors. The aim of this group is to assist childen to use calming strategies to cope with their emotions. Strong emotions are identified and strategies to build emotional resilience are taught. Each session's goal is to increase the child's self-awareness and teach skills for working through strong emotiong which they are able to use throughout their life.


-Condensed Summer Session #1 (for ages 7-9): July 9 - July 19, 2018 (Monday through Thursday 4:00-5:00pm), parent/caregiver session held from 4:00-5:00pm


-Condensed Summer Session #2 (for ages 10-12): July 23 - August 2, 2018 (Monday through Thursday 4:00-5:00pm), parent/caregiver session held from 4:00-5:00pm

Addictions & Mental Health Outreach Services Medicine Hat

Addictions & Mental Health Outreach Services, located in the RCC Building at 631 Prospect Drive SW (behind the hospital). Offers Community Support Program, Recreation Program, Seniors Addiction & Mental Health Therapy, Depot Clinic, & Therapy Groups.


Group Works is a group therapy program offered as a community based program and inpatient mental health unit program. Group Works is an opportunity for people to learn more about promoting their own mental health.

The 10 Keys to Happiness is a 10 week group that individuals can self refer to and attend on either Tuesdays or Thursdays at 1 pm. Individuals need to have a mental health diagnosis and meet for intake prior to attending.

Free confidential service that provides alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and problem gambling support, information and referral to services.

Adult Inpatient Psychiatry - Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (5 North)

Provides a safe environment and care to adults with a range of mental illnesses and with concurrent substance abuse challenges whose mental illnesses need immediate stabilization. Following stabilization, patients are prepared for discharge and transition to the community with referrals for follow-up with appropriate community addiction and mental health medical and social services as required.

Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous

​Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous is an international fellowship of men and women who have experienced difficulties in life as a result of the way we used to eat.

Our program of recovery is based on the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. We make use of AA principles to gain freedom from addictive eating. There are no dues, fees, or weigh-ins at FA meetings. Membership is open to anyone who wants help with food.

Medicine Hat Recovery Centre

​Offers a Detoxification Stabilization and Intensive Addition Treatment Service.

 

Admission into the Recovery Centre in-patient programs begin with a confidential telephone call available 24 hours a day. All program admissions are voluntary based on the informed consent of the individual. Fees do apply for room & board in the Intensive Addiction Treatment Program. There is no cost for the Detoxification Stabilization Program.
